Blueprint for Happiness – Part 8

We now come to the final portion of the Blueprint of Happiness. If we have set a goal according to the 2 conditions discussed so far and performed the right actions to work towards the goal, how should I behave if the results are not in line with my expectations? What kind of an attitude should I work with to be able to achieve my goals?

Part 08 of the Blueprint of Happiness series talks about the attitude of “Prasada Buddhi” to accept unfavorable results in life.

So far we thought that we need to add ‘things’, a car, a house, a holiday etc… to ‘become happy’. Now we know that we need to discover Happiness, which is our natural state. To do that we need to set our life goals based on the two conditions discussed & perform actions that lead to fulfilment of our goals. If on the way we get results as per expectations or exceeding expectations, it makes us happy and motivates us to work with greater vigor. If we get results which are less than what we expected, how do we deal with this unhappy situation?

This video discusses a simple technique called ‘Prasada Buddhi’ or the the art of acceptance to handle such eventualities. We perform actions to the best of our ability and accept the results as a blessing from the Lord. This attitude will help us accept unfavorable results and continue to work with renewed vigor. The concept of Prasada Buddhi has been explained with the help of a simple yet powerful corollary of going to the temple to pray.

When we work with the attitude of ‘Prasada Buddhi’, it reduces the cloud that veils our natural state of Happiness. It allows us to continue to work with renewed vigor and vitality, even when faced with unfavorable results. This helps us remove the cloud in our mind and discover Happiness which is our natural state.

Blueprint for Happiness – Part 7

We are now closer to completing our Blueprint to discover Happiness. In order to discover happiness, we need to set clear goals based on our natural inclination and perform the right actions to achieve our goals & discover Happiness.

In Part 07 of the Blueprint of Happiness series, we talk about how to work to achieve our goals and discover internal happiness. What is “Duty”? What kind of actions are forbidden actions? Can we fulfill our desires and do our duty at the same time?

To remove the cloud covering the “Happy Me”, we have to work to achieve goals set in life. The goals should be set based on a person’s Swadharma (discussed in the previous video) and one level higher than the individual’s need.

Duty is defined as those activities which take us towards our goals. DRA (Desire Ridden Activity) are those activities which allow us to enjoy a desire we have; these neither take us towards our goals or away from them. FA (Forbidden Actions) are all those actions which take us away from our goals. These concepts have been beautifully explained with the help of 2 examples in this video.

The First Step in the Leadership Journey – Owning It

“To think about your life is to create it.” – Unknown

There is an interesting job interview scenario doing the rounds on various social media platforms of late, about how a candidate gets hired largely by virtue of positive attitude and taking ownership. Seemingly unimportant deeds such as switching off the lights when one is the last person to leave the room, or even acknowledging the security personnel, go a long way in making the right impression to prospective employers. In a similar vein I recently read a newspaper article where a candidate did not get hired for the position of a CEO because the organization took a negative view of him screaming at the driver of the company cab that had been designated to take him for his interview.

Some of us may be tricked into believing that Leadership skills training is only relevant in the professional setting. Nothing can be farther from reality than this! In fact, of the various subtle indicators of personality traits from a very young age, the capacity to take ownership is a great tool to correctly predict who is cut out for the long haul, as against a weak-kneed person who may require additional support to get ahead in the ‘race’ that is life.

The ability to take ownership is clearly one of the first steps in displaying leadership qualities. Taking ownership implies, standing up and announcing that you are responsible for each and every action of yours. At work, taking ownership would simply mean, being accountable for a project within your specific job description.
Ownership aside, there are a few other corporate soft skills training focus areas that are integral to effective Leadership:

• Communication is one of the most important skills of a leader is to be able to communicate effectively.

• Awareness and the capacity to take informed decisions are crucial too.

• Honesty and integrity are non-negotiable aspects.

• Relationship Building holds the key to sustained growth and development of everyone involved.

• Innovation is necessary to augment progress and avoid the risk of stagnation.

• Developing Leadership Skills is vital since delegation is a crucial aspect of diversification and in the absence of an able succession pipeline, the entire effort is as good as a house of cards about to collapse.

While it is easier said than done, simply put, a good leader takes the lead, and displays exemplary courage, clear vision with ambition to succeed and a charismatic, positive persona. Also noteworthy is the fact as someone famously said, “Delegation works only when the person delegating works!” Good leaders also invariably emphasize on soft skills training for employees and encourage the team to perform to their optimum all the time and drive organisational success.

As intangible as the word ‘Leadership’ is, the kinds of Leadership that one may opt to display can be mind boggling. Transformational Leadership is exemplified by leaders who encourage, inspire and motivate employees to innovate and create change that will help grow and shape the future success of the company. In other words, such leaders ‘Walk the Talk’. Thought Leadership is another level altogether. As these persons are perceived to be seasoned subject matter experts and the go-to people in their respective fields of expertise, they are trusted resources who guide and inspire people with innovative ideas, and help turn ideas into reality, by demonstrating how to replicate their success.

If you are ready to progress to the next level in your personal Leadership Journey, there is no time to waste – make haste, and embark of discovering the ‘Leader in You’ by way of the various business soft skills training programs available.

Why How You Say What You Say Matters the Most!

Mastering the English language and improving vocabulary is usually far from sufficient when it comes to making an impression by way of superior inter personal skills. In order to enhance communication skills, the concept of listening to and responding appropriately, by using voice modulation and other soft skills, is far more important. For this reason, voice and accent training is an essential facet of the BPO industry.

Overall, the vital role played by the right voice and accent to ensure customer delight cannot be emphasized enough. Try this brief activity to test this yourself:

Step 1: Record your own voice on a voice recorder saying “Hello” with a straight face.
Step 2: Next, record the same again, this time, but with a little difference – say it with a smile.
Step 3: Share the two recordings to a trusted friend or acquaintance.
Step 4: Ask the person to guess which one sounded pleasant.
Step 5: Compare results and see whether the listener is able to match the voice with the mood.

Prepare to be surprised at the other person’s ability to correctly predict the one with the smile.
It is true – it is indeed possible to ‘Hear A Smile’!

All the focus on voice and accent, and sounding pleasant while answering a telephone call may be highly underrated, and hence the need to answer the telephone with a smile, every single time, in order to make a lasting, positive impression, even when the caller is unable to ‘see’ you in person.

Statistics reveal that only 7% of the words you utter is truly heard. Of the remaining, 38 % is the tone used or how you say it and the largest chunk – 55% depends on the gestures that accompany the speech, more commonly known as body language. The pressure on the communicator to send the right signals is all the more important if the interaction is in person, since any lack of conviction is instantly seen, by way of contradictory body language! On the flip side, during a telephonic conversation, one has to put in that much additional effort in the absence of body language to help you convey your point of view. It is no surprise therefore, that English language training and Voice and Accent training is a vital part of the business soft skills training across industry.

Irrespective of the role or industry you are a part of, corporate soft skills training can make the difference between success and failure, thanks to the pivotal role it plays. The good thing is, there are plenty of programs available to help participants with improving their spoken skills. These training programs are designed for participants to improve upon their voice and accent, a very important aspect of soft skills training. Aimed at helping participants to neutralise elements of their speech, overcome any traces of Mother Tongue Influence (also known as MTI), and speak confidently with a more global accent, this is surely a worthy investment to make!

Blueprint for Happiness – Part 6

Our problem statement has now changed from “How do I become Happy” to “How do I discover Happiness”, which is my natural state. We need to work in a manner that allows us to discover our true nature which is 100% Happiness, 100% of the time. Part 06 of the Blue print of Happiness series is devoted to how we should Work to remove the cloud of ignorance and and to find the Sun of Happiness. To do this, one needs to identify a clear Goal in life and work towards achievement of that goal. This process, if done properly, will lead to discovery of our natural state of happiness. The goal to be achieved, needs to be set in a manner that is in tune with an individual’s desires also called swa-dharma.

The goal should be the one which the individual wants to achieve and finds pleasure in working towards. For example, if you are drawn towards a creative field and end up being an accountant, it will lead to misery. The second condition of the goal is that it needs to be 1 level higher than the individual’s need. The larger the number of people whose benefit you keep in mind while working towards your goal, the larger is the amount of energy that is available to you to work with. More the energy more the happiness.
